2015 Update

Hello, Friends:

I apologize for not tending to this blog over the last few months. I have been very busy with RL. I hope to start creating again this summer. I am not sure if I will continue to create for TS3 or if I will switch to TS4. It depends.

I have not heard from cshenrich in a long time, so I do not know if he will continue with this blog.

I hope all is well with your lives.

Best wishes,

WendyPan

Lesson 6 of CSHenrich's Tutorial on Making Custom Content

Lesson 6

This lesson shows you how to make custom thumbnails for your creation. The pictures for this were originally part of Lesson 4, but you can find that link under the new Lesson 5.

This lesson also tells you how to make your project base game compatible. This information was added by WendyPan, so there are no pictures for this.

To make your thumbnails, take closeup screenshots of each variation of your project.

Use GIMP or some other photoediting program to crop and resize your pictures to 220px x 250px.

Note from WendyPan: If you need to make your project base game compatible, it is best to attach your thumbnails AFTER you have made it base game compatible.

Open your project in the Workshop. Under the "Projects" tab, click on "Extras." It is near the bottom. The third line is "Launcher thumbnail." Click on the empty box in that line. Click on the three dots to the right, and then browse for your thumbnail. I usually use the first variation of the project as the launcher thumbnail. Once you find your thumbnail, click on it. Click "Open" and then your thumbnail will be attached.

CSHenrich's Tutorial for Making Custom Clothing, Lesson 5

Lesson 5

I have uploaded these pictures on Mediafire, too. Here is the link:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?7z7audu4sc8krdc Originally, this was Lesson 4, so that is what the Mediafire file says. Besides being relocated in the tutorial, this Lesson has been extensively reorganized, so the pictures are no longer in order. Sorry for any inconvenience.

To complete your project, there are some things you need to do in the TSR Workshop or "TSRW.". It is also helpful to have a better understanding of the functions of the TSRW.

Start the Workshop now and open your saved project. In the Workshop window are three tabs at the top of the screen: "Project", "Texture" and "Mesh".

The first line under the "Project" tab is "Title." If you have not yet given your project a name, you may do so at this time. Click on "Edit," type in the name of the project, and "Copy to All." Then press "Save."

A word of warning from WendyPan: If you have not yet made your thumbnails or if you plan to make your project base game compatible, continue to use a working title and do NOT give the project its final name. In fact, EACH time you take your project in and out of your CAS, you should give it a slightly different name, such as "Boyshorts v2," then "Boyshorts v3." If you use the same name each time, the game will read the new version as a duplicate and IT WILL NOT SHOW UP IN YOUR GAME.

CSHenrich's Tutorial for Making Custom Clothing, Lesson 4

Lesson 4

Here are the pictures for this lesson:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?t0fv22yv4i2eqw7
The Mediafire file is called Lesson 5, but it contains the pictures for this lesson and for Lesson 6.

Now we will make the other maps for our clothing. First, we will create the "Clothing Specular" map. This is an optional map, which affects the appearance of the clothing. If you want a very glossy look, you should use this map. If you want a flatter appearance, you do not have to use it.

Note from WendyPan: I often do not use this map but use a plain black specular map. I think the specular map works best on sleepwear and swimwear or other clothing without a lot of texture. If you use it on clothing that has a lot of texture, it can make the clothing look thick and rubbery. However, it is a matter of personal preference and you should experiment with using this map once you learn how to create it.

Open your project in GIMP. Make sure that the box "Load mipmaps" is NOT checked.

CSHenrich's Tutorial for Making Custom Content Clothing, Lesson 3

Lesson 3

Here are the pictures for this chapter: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zeqci5yc6ayglor

You have finished your texture, but only part of the project is finished. There are several "maps" which you must make for your creation to be good content and not something that will mess up games.

In this lesson we will create a RGB mask so you can make two parts of the thong recolorable. RGB=Red Green Blue! When you read that an item is recolorable in one or more channels, the creator is referring to the Red, Green, and Blue channels. There is also an Alpha Channel, but it has special properties the others do not have. Btw, the colors are merely the name of the channels and does not refer to the actual colors.

Ok, let's get started! Open your GIMP. Go to "File" then "Open." Browse for your .dds file. NOT the .xcf file or the TSRW file. When you load the .dds file, make sure the box "Load mipmaps" is NOT checked.

Tip: When you export a file, you want to check the Load Mipmaps box. Whenever you import a file, that box should NOT be checked.

CSHenrich's Tutorial for Making Custom Content Clothing--Lesson 2

Lesson 2

Now we want to create our custom texture. If you want to see bigger pictures, go to http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?odtgcd4cjhqt1ad

Open GIMP. Open either your .dds or your .xcs file. Place helplines as shown in the picture below.

For a more fashionable and realistic look, we want to make the sidestraps of the bikini more rounded and placed higher. Add additional helplines as shown.

Next, click on the "Ellipse" tool. It is located to the immediate left of the "Free Select" tool. Use the tool to create an ellipse.

You can create the ellipse by using the settings in the "Tool Options" dialog box, but you will have to estimate the settings. It may be easier to draw the ellipse by hand. (Note that the Tool Options dialog box is shown docked to the bottom of the Toolbox. If for some reason, the Tool Options box disappears, you can find it again by click on "Windows," then "Dockable Dialogs," and then "Tool Options.")
